Slap & Track Geofence

Geofencing is a technique for monitoring and restricting vehicle or asset movement to a particular area. If it strays outside the bounds, an alarm is sent to the dispatcher.

Time is of the essence in a geofencing system. If a stolen trailer exits the geofence, for example, immediate notification can make the difference between recovery and loss. In true geofencing systems, the tracking terminal determines a geofence breach and immediately notifies the dispatcher. In contrast, terminals that cannot determine a breach and require lengthy wake-up cycles can't efficiently perform true geofencing.

Read about how Brown Trucking has reduced trailer misplacement and theft to near-zero using TransCore's GPS solution.

Slap & Track's built-in, next-generation GPS is a true geofencing system. A Slap & Track terminal always knows its own position, and offers wake-up cycles of 30 minutes or less, thus providing timely and accurate location data to the dispatcher in the event of a geofence breach.

Terminals that use GLS and similar back-office fix technologies must rely on sending unprocessed data from the terminal to the back office to determine location and subsequently determine if a geofence has been broke. Ths approach requires additional time and may require more over-the-air messages, potentially causing crucial delays when there is a security breach.

*SkyBitz' Web site product information states that their GLS terminals can be awakened in as little as one hour. TransCore Slap & Track terminals can be awakened in 30 minutes or less, or at least twice as fast as SkyBitz. SkyBitz' Battery Life Calculator claims that its GLS 200 terminal battery will last 3.1 years with a 1-hour wake-up cycle, when delivering two reports per day. A TransCore Slap & Track terminal's batteries will last up to six years with the same reporting schedule and 30-minute wake-up cycle.
